Acer Aspire One - Acer and their new Ultra Portable Laptop

Acer Aspire One

Acer have joined the race to get a slice of the ever-growing mini laptop market, with the Acer Aspire One. Similar in concept to the Asus Eee PC, HP Mini-Note and MSI Wind, the Acer Aspire One is the latest in the trend of Ultra Portable Laptops.

Acer launched the Aspire One into what they see as the "nettop" or "netbook" category and are insistent about the fact that this is not a notebook/laptop computer. Having said this the Acer Aspire One has a version running Windows XP, with an 80GB hard drive and 1.5GB RAM, which does take the form of a regular notebook along with the hinged screen on the keyboard base.

Despite measuring just 24 x 17cm, Acer have managed to squeeze in a full QWERTY keyboard and 8.9in LCD screen into the the Aspire One. The screen takes on other laptops, with a respectable widescreen aspect (1024 x 600) and has a matt finish which is suited to this type of device.

Acer Aspire One powered by the new Intel Atom Processor

The Acer Aspire One is powered by the new Intel Atom chipset, which operates at a speed of 1.6GHz. This is the same processor which you will find in the MSI Wind. The Intel Atom uses much less power than previous models and fits perfectly into this ultra portable laptop.

Ultra Portable Acer Aspire One Laptop

Weighing in at less than 1 KG, the Acer Aspire One is ready to take on the other Ultra Portable Laptops in the guise of the Asus EEE PC's who have recently release the EEE PC 900 and EEE PC 1000 ranges of the very popular mini laptops.

Having squeezed in a full qwerty keyboard along with a 8.9 inch LCD screen, the Aspire One is undoubtedley a powerful little bundle in this new age of mobile computing.

The Acer Aspire One is available from a number of well know online retailers and we have put together a price comparison page here; Acer Aspire One Price Comparison.
